Electronic waste, also known as e-waste, is a global challenge that poses significant environmental and health risks. It is estimated that over 50 million metric tons of e-waste are generated worldwide each year, and this number is expected to continue to grow as the use of electronic devices increases.
By teaching children about e-waste and empowering them to take action, we can help to create a generation that is more mindful of their impact on the environment and more committed to building a sustainable future.
The ‘E-waste Circularity Challenge’ lesson plan includes comprehensive teacher guides to be able to implement in the classroom with ease. It is designed to be modular, making it useful for blended learning activities and supporting the development of 21st-century skills.
The lesson plan is designed for 12-14-year-old students, but can be easily adapted for younger or older age groups.
After completing the activity, the students will be able to:
* Explain in simple terms the issue of electronic waste.
* Identify basic electronic waste sources, and discover the electronic waste management opportunities closest to their home.
* Co-design with their peers a simple community engagement initiative to connect with their surrounding community.
* Help raise awareness about the negative impact of using electronic devices.
